The National Junior Classical League is an organization for middle and high school students in classical courses. NJCL proudly holds the honor of being one of the largest academic youth organizations in the world. There are over 50,000 members in approximately 1,200 chapters, located in almost every state and in several foreign countries. Established in 1936, the organization seeks to promote the study of Latin and Greek, to benefit students and teachers alike, and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of classical antiquity.

  • NJCL holds state and national conventions where delegates have an opportunity to meet others and participate in academic, creative, and graphic arts contests, and athletic competitions.
  • NJCL provides leadership opportunities on local, state, and national levels.
  • NJCL annually publishes four editions of the official newsletter, the TORCH:US.
  • NJCL sponsors a creative writing contest, open to all members.
  • NJCL also coordinates local, state, and national quiz bowl competitions called Certamen.
  • NJCL sponsors the National Latin Honor Society and the National Greek Honor Society.
  • NJCL awards scholarships on the state and national levels to both students and teachers.
