One of the standing committees of ACL is the Committee on the National Junior and Senior Classical Leagues. The committee consists of twelve members, each with specific duties related to NJCL and NSCL. One term on the Committee last four years. Members are eligible to be re-elected to a second consecutive term. However, after two consecutive terms, one must be off the Committee for three years before serving on the Committee again.
To be eligible for one of these positions, an individual must be a member of ACL. The individual should also be familiar with the operation of NJCL and NSCL. Certain skills are beneficial for each job. As an example, it would be helpful to have previously been involved in planning a large convention for the position of Convention Advisor. As another example, one would obviously need to be very familiar with all aspects of Certamen to serve as Certamen Chair.
This year, four positions will be open for election at the NJCL Convention. The positions are:
Convention Advisor (Convention@njcl.org)
Certamen Chair (Certamen@njcl.org)
Graphic Arts Chair (GraphicArts@njcl.org)
Communications Chair (Communications@njcl.org)
If you are interested in one of these positions, you should become familiar with the duties of the position. Duties of each position are listed in the NJCL Chapter Handbook. You may contact the incumbent officer to ask about duties of the position and if you are at the convention you may shadow the incumbent when he or she can allow it.
If you wish to run for one of these positions, download this National Committee nomination form. It is a fillable form once you have donwloaded it. Complete the application and return it, as directed on the application, to Sherwin Little at the NJCL office. The deadline to apply is July 1, 2018. If you have any questions, contact Dennis Webb, the NJCL Constitutional Advisor (Constitution@njcl.org).
