Thursday got off to a vigorous start as Olympika attendees boarded busses for the Track and Field events at the City Park Track. Certamen players were also up and about early as the second round of Competitive Certamen was played this morning; they would play their third round later this evening, to ultimately decide the nine teams that would proceed to the semi-final rounds for each level. Completing this morning's events was the Sight Latin Contest, where participants were presented with a passage they must translate and present 'on the spot.' (And, as you can tell from the lack of pictures from these events, your webmaster took this opportunity to get a few extra winks of sleep!)

New to convention this year was Ludi Ultimate Frisbee, which was held on the commons area right outside the University Center. Champions in this inaugural year of friendly competition was a combined team from the states of Colorado, Connecticut, North Dakota, and Oklahoma.
With the Nominations Committee having been held the previous day, officer candidates had a luncheon in Bruff Commons, while designees from each state attended the Constitutional Amendments committee meeting. Candidates would address the assembled delegates and propose their campaign platforms later this evening at the Candidates Speeches assembly in McAllister Auditorium. Missing from the slate of officers were candidates for the position of Editor. Since no one came forward during the declaration of a State of Emergency, an application process was initiated and the position filled after a review of the applications and interviews later this week by the remaining newly-elected officers.

A third contest session, offering examinations in Mottoes, Quotes, and Abbreviations, Roman Life, Greek Life and Literature, as well as Latin Vocabulary, was held after lunch in the now very familiar McAllister Auditorium. Test takers who were also involved in the Costume contest had to balance their schedules, as these two competitions had a bit of overlap. This year, the male costume character was Saturn, the females portrayed the Cumaean Sibyl, and the couples competed as Cupid and Psyche.

Evening events included the popular Impromptu Art contest in which participants must create a classical work of art from various items, including this year a picture of bottle of Tabasco - in keeping with the Louisiana flavor of the convention, of course.

Reily Student Recreation Center saw an influx of JCLers again this evening as Ludi Volleyball took place around the dinner hour. Capturing this year's title was Wisconsin, with Texas taking runner up and the host state of Louisiana rounding out the top three.
While this day had no General Assembly, all delegates were present for the Candidates Speeches assembly and from there went on to attend either the Pajama Jam in the University Center or the very-well attended and popular Kajun Karaoke in Der Rathskeller, also within the University Center.
