No rest for the weary... or is that for the athletes? Regardless, Olympika track and field events were on tap early this morning.

Under consistently blue skies, participants vied in the high jump, long jump, shot, discus, and running events.
Those not involved in Olympika got to catch a few extra winks before the Costume Contest. This year's characters were Arachne and Hephaestus for girls and boys, respectively, and Orpheus and Eurydice for the couples. Running concurrently with the Costume Contest was a second round of seminars, including a tour of the History of Science collection at the University. The remainder of the morning saw the Competitive Certamen participants play their second of three rounds to determine the semifinalists. Those same players would convene later tonight for their final preliminary matches.

A third round of academic contests was held this afternoon seeing delegates challenged by examinations in Mottoes, Quotations, and Abbreviations; Roman Life; Greek Life and Literature; and Latin Vocabulary. This evening, some of them would also take the Academic Decathlon exam, the winner of which receives $500 donated by an anonymous friend of JCL.
By afternoon, campus was quickly canvassed by the JCL officer candidates as they posted campaign signs and mingled with the constituents. This evening they had their opportunities to garner more support and promulgate their plans for office as they each addressed the JCL delegates at the Candidates' Speeches assembly in the Lloyd Noble Center.

JCL'ers were not the only ones busy on campus today. The SCLers held their annual banquet this evening on the second floor of the Couch Cafeteria complex. This standing-room-only event afforded these collegians (and a few post-collegians) a chance to mingle as well as honor those that received SCL scholarships. Sponsors among the convention attendees also took part in events specifically tailored to them. In addition to the Hospitality Room, kept well-stocked all week by our Oklahoma hosts, many teachers this evening took part in the Teachers' Idea Exchange, in which these dedicated mentors can share experiences, anecdotes, teaching materials and techniques.

Purple and Gold day at the 2000 NJCL Convention was capped off by another dance - with the theme of 'Carnivale' - however, the alternative activity, a Karaoke night, was an unfortunate casualty of a scheduling mishap. As all other nights at convention, this one ended with each state's delegation attending its fellowship to once again review the day's successes and look forward to upcoming events.
